I'm Not Done Yet

I'm not done talking about Halloween yet. I still have a few thoughts about it, and since it is the first day of NaBloPoMo, I figured I should probably write something.

I absolutely love the idea of going around the neighborhood and getting candy from people. It made me sad that there were so few lights on last night. Even though Josh was practically begging me to stop, I wanted to hit every glowing porch. I was telling him that I would be upset if we were home and nobody stopped, so I wanted to support trick-or-treating by going to every house, especially the ones that had long drive-ways or were a little out of the way. If we our kids have to suffer from sugar-highs in order to get the point across, so be it.

Then we got to the next to the last house. I remembered her from last year. I remembered that she was very friendly and was happy to see us last year, and I was not disappointed this year. She told us about her kids (teens or in college) and what she was watching on tv. She introduced us to her dog. She also pointed out the cute Halloween decorations that she found at the hardware store. We thanked them (her husband came to the door in the middle of our conversation. He seemed to be trying to hurry her up a bit.

As we were leaving, I pointed out how nice she was, and that I was glad we had stopped. Josh then pointed out that I would be that same lady some day. Apparently, she had been drinking and was a little more boisterous than made Josh comfortable... I hadn't even noticed. I just thought she was happy to see our little Happy Feet. So what-there is nothing wrong with getting drunk and waiting at my door for little kids to come by so I can give them candy. Maybe I WILL be that lady some day, only the decorations I find at the hardware store will be much cooler.
